Stopped at a small little Mom & Pop gun shop today, been years since I had been there.....found 4000 CCI magnum small rifle primers. Any guess how old these are?

If memory serves, those boxes go back about 30 years. Bet they are still as good as the day they rolled out the plant's door. Should have an original price tag of about $5 a brick

Excellent find.

They will appreciate it. I am sure they were feeling neglected. :)

Price Paid?

Wow, good for you, Rembrandt!

I gotta ask..... did you pay the 1980 (or so) original price? Or did they nail you for $30 a brick?

Oh, and.... do they have more?

I just did the same, except with 3000 CCI 400s. Same packaging as yours, all the same lot. $16 a brick.

Hope you got as good a deal or better.

Just loaded some today with primers like those. Still got several thousand. They still go bang.

I've still got 1,500 large pistol of that vintage. Didn't dawn on me that they were that old. I guess my newer ones are 12 years old. All of them are as good as new.

Two weeks ago I went into a local gunshop and found 5000 CCI primers in the green boxes and 950 357 mag plated brass. Got the setup for $22.50 out the door and he gave me a pound of unique in the paper tube with it! The unique turned out to be sealed as new and works well. In the past I have purchased partials without any trouble when tried out. I guess it will last a long time if stored correctly also.

Those boxes are from 3 different time periods. The two with the larger black rifle are the same as a few boxes I have which are are marked 09/1989. I think the other 2 boxes you have are older.

Since I have the same and can recall when I bought them, the box on the top right dates from the early 70's.

If they've been properly stored, they should be fine. But then, I'm the guy who still has Winchester primers from the 40's that work.

I was given some large pistol primers that look like they're from the same era. The price tag on them is 15.99, I believe. My local place now has them for $39.50, WHEN they're in stock.

although I am new to reloading... actually I am deployed and just bought my first press. its waiting for me at home. 60 days out. :Dglad to see that CCI makes such a good product. I was 4 in 1987. I enjoy reading what the vet reloaders have to say.

Wilki731,

I started handloading the summer of 1983, the year you were born. Thanks for reminding me of my vintage!!:scrutiny:

I have a brick of primers that looks like the one on the upper right, marked at $9.80.

Thanks for reminding me of my vintage!!
I started about 1984. I started feeling old when I realized I was thinking about stuff I did 40 years ago. :(

Oh well, it's not all bad. :)

Yep, I remember the good old days when 1000 primers were under $10.

It's a good idea to mark the date of purchase on powder and primers.

I mark the box with the month and year they come into my possession (e.g.: "AUG 07"). This way, although the stuff may not be yesterday-fresh-manufacture, I will at least have a rough idea of how old they are. Oldest stock gets used first in my shop, and dating the consumables definitely helps with this policy.

It's scary to see how quickly twenty years go by.....
