I will be traveling to New Orleans for a couple of days later this month and am looking for some clarification on three points that were not answered to my satisfaction on the state police website. I know that my Texas CHL is valid in Louisiana, but I would like to know:

1. Is there a "printing" statute in Louisiana?

2. Are "gun busters" signs considered legal notification to concealed carriers?

3. Is it illegal for me to carry in a resturant that serves alcohol even if I am not drinking?

Any information that can be provided in regards to these questions will be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/louisiana.pdf

No Guns Allowed signs do have the Force of Law in LA

Carry in Restaurants That Serve Alcohol- NO
LA has conflicting laws on carry in places that serve alcohol. There are different sections that cover places that serve alcohol. One law says it’s OK if they have a class R (Restaurant License) and another law says no carry in places for consumption on the premises.Until they do iron it out Handgunlaw.us advises not to carry in places that serve alcohol for consumption on the premises in LA.

In Texas it's legal to carry in the restaurant, but not in the bar area. Is that what they are saying? Maybe a Louisiana member could tell us how it works.

1. No, OC is legal too (which printing kind of is). But, don't print within 1000 feet of a school.... CC is okay in this area, OC is not. Hope it's not too confusing.

2. This is kind of a gray area. The law isn't as strong and clear as Texas is. If you are caught CCing, you could be asked to leave and if you don't it would then be tresspassing. It's probably best to respect the property rights of those whose property you plan to be on.

3. Just don't go in the bar area.

The last thing to remember is that New Orleans Police aren't known for being gun friendly.... ever read "The Great New Orleans Gun Grab?" There is a good chance of one of them not even knowing the laws. It's best if you don't have to interact with them at all, so don't give them reason to. There is a saying "You might beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride."

One last thing, in Louisiana as a CHL holder, you are required to inform the an officer that you are carrying if he chooses to make you part of his official business. In your car, walking, wherever.... make sure you politely inform the officer.

I live in Red Stick.... the laws in LA are about as clear as mud.... keep your nose clean, don't go into prohibited places and you should be fine.
