Just took the plunge and picked up an standard model FNX-45 in black with a stainless slide.

Love it!

This is exactly the kind of modern .45 platform I've been looking for!

Up until now, the only .45 I've owned is my grandfather's 1911 from WWII. Which is fantastic as a collectors piece and family heirloom. . . but doesn't really offer all the features a more modern pistol does.

I was initially skeptical of getting an FNX 45 because it has some online detractors. . . but after a LONG time researching it, I came to the conclusion it's just a very vocal minority that has anything bad to say about this pistol. So happy I did!!!

I've taken it to the range twice already since last week, zero malfunctions or failures of any kind. It's super-soft shooting. . . barely more recoil than a 9mm. . . and an incredible 15+1 rounds of .45 ACP will make a compelling argument in any situation!!!

The one downside I've found is the grip texturing is a little rough. I think it was designed to be shot with gloves on. So I ordered some Talon rubberized grips. They should be in soon, and hopefully that will address the only negative of the pistol I've managed to discover.

If you're looking for a .45, get one today!

I picked up an FNX-9 cheap a while back as a beater gun, and it has really surprised me. They are really nice shooting guns. I'm sure I'd like the .45 as well, but I kinda want the Tactical as a supressor host. Gotta save more pennies.

I think the current crop of FN pistols is undeservidly overlooked by folks. They are really nice guns.

Let me know what you think of the grips.

I've been shooting it all single action so far. As a HD gun I really don't envision a scenario where I'd have to shoot it in DA mode. But I'll try it out next time I'm at the range.

The FNP-45 I had would not feed properly, even after magazine spring changes. But when it did shoot, it was supremely accurate, and soft shooting. It sounds like the issues with the FNP line have been addressed with the FNX series guns.

I may give one a try again in the future.

Besides the obvious malfunction issues, the only thing I didn't like about it was the mag release. The tip of my trigger finger hit it all the time when shooting. If they come out with an FNS-45, I may venture back into the FN world. Though it will depend on if the HK VP45 comes out first, as I really like my HK45, but miss the capacity of the FN. Of course, there is the XDm........ I need a second job.

Oh, and if the DA trigger pull is anything like mine was, it is stiff, but smooth with a clean break. It's a fighting gun to be sure, but the trigger is decent.

Congrats

My personal specimen has been perfect thus far with about 450 rounds through it. It has proven phenomenally accurate -- I'm impressed with this pistol. The SA trigger is excellent; the DA trigger is good.

I've also been super-impressed with the accuracy of mine. It's certainly more accurate than I am.

I am a SIG guy but have read very good reviews about the FNX and wanted to put one in my hands but none were at last month's gun show. Hopefully I will be able to at this weeks local gun show.
