Got a new toy recently. FNH FNX-45. I know it's not the "tacticool" version, but i don't own any cans, and didn't feel like paying 50% more for tall sights, threaded barrel and a red dot cut on the slide.

The good: soft shooting, accurate, absolutely reliable so far, everything but the takedown is full ambi, cool safety gives options for carry, surprisingly slim and comfortable for a 15+1 .45ACP, it indexes very naturally for a 1911 guy, rail makes it more practical than my 1911 as a "bump in the night" gun.

The bad: "Surprisingly slim" is still relative; this thing doesn't lend itself to tucking away. The nice ergos mean the grip lacks rigidity without a mag in it. The trigger isn't bad, but it's definitely nothing to shout about. My 1911 is starting to feel neglected...

Really seems to like the Winchester LEO ammo i squirrelled away a couple years ago when a friend came across it for a good price. Shame i probably won't see more any time soon...

All-in-all i find this to be a well-thought-out and well made handgun, comfortable and pleasant to shoot, with the nice bonus of a pretty hefty load of lead on tap. That capacity without being ridiculously huge is what really sold me. Much as i love my Kimber, this thing very nearly doubles the rounds i can get downrange before my first reload.

Mines just a lowly FNP, but not a whole lot different. Love the way it handles and fires, despite the so-so trigger.

I have carried it concealed, but it is a tad much to sling, unless you don’t carry about printing.
For open carry, it’d be sweet

Yeah. It's definitely more of a "winter/travel/wrong side of town" gun. I have a Shield .45 for more relaxed carry. Picked up a Safariland GLS retention holster for the FNX that actually hides pretty well under a jacket and makes for a fast, smooth draw, but even with my...er...ample frame, i couldn't see trying to carry this IWB.

It's a very practical, functional service-type pistol that's easy to score hits with and makes efficient use of it's dimensions.

My Kimber Stainless TLE is definitely classier and more refined, but a bit less practical in this age of madness. That said, since it's no longer my main nightstand gun, i took the opportunity to dress up the old girl for the role of my "Barbecue gun," for which a 1911 is hard to beat...

The fnx45 has been on my "short list" for years.

The only thing that has kept me from buying one is the size and the price of FN magazines. Also, they have a habit of changing things out on newer models so that older mags don't work/work as well.

Other than that, I have never had a bad FN product. The 45 version seems like a good all business full size fighting gun. Enjoy!

On the plus side, it came with 3 mags in the box, and i found more at Palmetto for about $45 each. I honestly have paid almost that much for Sig mags, so it wasn't too terribly offputting for me, especially since the word on the street is the factory mags are GTG, which is more than could be said for the 14rd mags Sig used to make for the 227, the other high-cap .45 i used to covet.

So i have a total of 6 now, and a couple hundred rounds through the gun. No malfs of any kind so far.

Congrats on the new .45! Looks like it's a winner in the accuracy department too!
