I want to get an SU-16 (preferably the new model with the lightweight 16" barrel and metal front sight when they become available). A red dot seem ideal for this, but many (like the Bushnell/Eotech Holosight) seem to be designed to sit quite high above the receiver. This is probably ideal for an AR-15, where the normal sights sit high, but on the SU-16 it seems like you'd want it mounted as low as possible. I know there are quite a few options, but are there any that sit low, aren't too big, and work well? I've wondered about the very small ones designed for handguns (JPoint, etc.), the Hakko MK-III Bed 35, etc. The SU-16s open sights appear to sit right on the receiver, so it seems unlikely that I'll find any red-dot sight that would allow me to also see the open sights through it, but that would be nice. Suggestions?

Thanks

Doug

The Aimpoint Comps (and the M/ML) have very, very low mounts available. Low enough you can mount one to the special super-low bases on a G3 and look thru the sights there. Check those out.
