Low power scope for .270 win

I currently have a 4.5-14x nikon buckmaster on my stevens 200 in 270 win..
But plan to put that scope on a varmint rig im trying to set up once I purchase a .243 in a few weeks..

I also own a .30-06 with a vx1 4-12x, so that will be my primary long range hunting rifle for when I know I might take a longer shot.

Now my plan is to turn my .270 into a rifle geared for the close/medium range hunts.

I am wanting to put something more compact on the rifle and my budget is around 200 bucks. Right now I am looking at the Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35mm. But know there are all sorts of scopes in this price range/magnification range..

Also any experience with picatinny style mounts on the Stevens 200(savage 110)?

At the risk of sounding pimpish, I still have a few of those new Swift Premiers for sale. The 3-9x40 might be a great match for your rifle....:D

Ha i knew someone would ask why the .270 for close shots.. Its a lighter rifle and has a synthetic stock, so it will be better suited for banging around while hiking south texas...

..but the main reason is my grandad gave me the .30-06 and I dont want to change a single thing about it(rings/bases/scope).. so for now the .270 will be the close to medium gun
 
With something like that 2-7, you can have quick close shots while a quality 7x is no slouch at longer range. For many, long range is 300 yards and a .270 Win with 7x is more than enough for deer sized game at those distances.

I replaced a Leupold 3.5-10 with a Leupold VX-R 2-7 and really like it.
 
I just put a Redfield 2x7 on a 6.8. Its 11" and 11 oz. Clear, fast, and light. Paid $150.00 for it. What's not to like?
 
Yeah sounds like you guys know what I'm going for. I have eyed the redfields over but do you guys think it is as good of a value as the fullfield?
 
IMO the Burris you mentioned is the best buy in that price range for a scope that size. It's what I'd go with if I wanted a 2-7.
 
I have several 2-7 scopes on my rifles and find it a very handy magnification range. The best 2-7 scope I have is a Vortex Viper I picked up on closeout for $160 last summer. The glass is clear edge to edge plus I love the quick reset turrets.
 
I like the Redfields. You can also get a 1.75-5 or 2-7 Vortex Diamondback in that price range. I had one and liked it. SWFA also has their Leupold VX-Is discounted right now (VX-IIs too but that is just over the stated budget).
 
I use the Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x on most of my hunting guns and it's a terrific optic that is still available online for under $200 if you check around.
 
Well sounds like 2-7 is the way to go. Will this be a problem for a weaver 20 moa mount?
I just can't handle paying 70-80 bucks just for the mount if a 30 dollar one will do just fine
 
And do the vortex hang with the redfield/leupold, nikon, Burris, bushnell, weaver? These are just companies I'm more familiar with actually using
 
And rbernie that elite does look like a good scope and I like the mag.
Anyone have any experience with the firefly reticle? I hadn't heard of it

At the range you're talking about shooting, I would assume it would be plenty strait enough. If the scope is a 1" tube, you may find the 20moa rail puts your crosshairs noticeably out of center.
 
I really like the 2.5-10 power scopes like bushnell . Great japan glass and made there also.They offer good close up work and can still see well enought for the long range shots or to pick a shot thru thicker covered areas like a wooded bottom.

looks like ill prob end up goin with the fullfield at these prices
 
Ok im leaning towards the Fullfield II - but heres the thing experience would help me out with... What about the ballistic drop plex vs the german plex??

I could honestly care less about the drop compensating option considering I have such a long max point blank range.
The thing that concerns me is I plan for this to be a rifle for quick shots and I know the German style reticle would be quicker/easier on the eye.. and I'm looking at around 50 extra dollars if I do go with the german plex.

so like I said, anyone have experience with these reticules??
 
Also, as far as the bushnell elite 1.5-4.5 and the firefly reticle. Is the crosshair fine enough for longer shots?

leupold vx-1 2-7x - 199
 
nobody else going to chime in? 200+ views and no more insight?

Oh well I don't think i can go wrong with any of these
