Low-power target practice handgun scope

I'm looking for something I can put on my S&W 625. I just ordered a scope mount for my 5" gun, simply because it's my favorite target revolver and I don't believe I'll do much many other things with it. Plus, I hate the sights it has right now. I figure with a small red-dot or simular configuration, I can finally remove a lot of user error from the gun. For target shooting out to, say, 25 yards, what do you guys think? I'm on a budget here, so don't tell me I need something over $60. I've heard pretty good things about BSA red dots, and I'm not too worried about them breaking under muzzleblast.

Does anyone here have a 625 they've put a scope or red dot on? Any advice you'd like to give?

You have a nice gun, and optics aren't really the place to save pennies.



Quality optics can be found for for well under $150.

My advise: Save up for a few weeks. It will be worth the wait.

It's not quite a PC gun, and I'd like to have some nice optics on it, but that could come later. The trigger is a lot better on my 625 than my 686P. But please, tell me about what you've got on your gun.

All three of my scoped pistols wear Leupold 2X EER scopes. They are top notch in quality and reliability but will not fit into your $60 budget unless you can find a super deal on a used one.

I'm not sure I'll need a magnified scope on a .45 ACP gun. Perhaps I'll have one on my dream S&W 629 pre-lock partial-lug that's sitting in a gun store right now, but that's a long time from now.

You did ask for a "Low Power ... Handgun Scope". Most "2X" pistol scopes are actually 1.5X-1.75X in magnification. This magnification is just enough to see the target a little better and still allow a wide field of view. Primary advantage of the scope is that it puts the target and sights (crosshairs) in the same focal plane so you can see both sharply at the same time. Those of us who have had a large number of birthdays appreciate this feature more than younger shooters.

This one is a Truglo. I'm kind of torn. I'll be using this scope on my S&W 625 .45 ACP, and my shots will probably never exceed 25 yards (That's what I'll sight it in for). I'm leaning toward the truglo, but the millett looks sexier.

The Tru -Glo is great! Have 2 of em' on my wifes guns. She smoked a 9 point at 80 yards with her .357 with one on top.
These are the 2X models also.
P.S. I've got a 2 X 7 shotgun and a 4 X 14 rifle scope by Millet and am very happy with them.

Find a used Tacso Pro-Class. I have one and I use it for a scout scope. Mine is 1x30 and has a fine crosshair with tiny dot reticle. Works great and can be found used on EBay for usually under $50. Alright, I made my choice. I went with the Millett. My gun is a .45 ACP. If it was a bigger magnum that I wanted to scope for hunting, then the truglo would have been in the mail. However, since the millett looks sexier and is 20 dollars cheaper and will do everything the truglo will but without the slight magnification, I decided to go for it. Once I sight it in, I'll post up a review. Thanks for the imput everyone.

If it is not too late (hopefully) you may want to reconsider. I had bad luck with two different samples of that particular model Millet scope. Even had they not self-destructed in my opinion the tube is too small for a good field of view for any shooting other firing from a rest. On my 610 Classic I use a non magnifying red dot(see below) for target shooting and easy varmint targets like armadillos or the such and a 2x30mm Bushnell fine reticle for serious hunting. Leupolds are great and I will pick up one if I ever find a decent one 2nd hand and highly discounted. I also want to add that I have owned other Millet products that worked fine and without fail.

The millet has been ordered. I will only be using this for target shooting, notsomuch throwing the gun up and popping a shot off at the occasional white-tail. Hopefully my experience will go better than yours.

I find myself in a very similary position you were in.
I'm trying to decide between a Millet SP-2 and the Ultradot 30mm model.
I'll also be using it for .45ACP in a revolver.
