I have a .30-06 bolt action rifle that I rarely take out to shoot. I just don't enjoy the recoil. I read an article about some of the low recoil loads from Federal, etc. Has anyone tried them?
Bullets and powder will go for around $16 for powder and $10-15 for bullets. This way you can drop around $60 and load lighter rounds for range work and some accurate rounds for hunting.
Second, if you dont want to or are able to get into reloading then look into getting a recoil pad for either the rifle or your shoulder. You can find a strap on pad for your shoulder for $15-30.
Or you can have a magnum recoil pad installed on your rifle. You can do it or have a gunsmith do it for a few dollars more.
I have a differnt suggestion, take the rifle to a good smith and ask them to fit it for you. I am small in stature and 30-06 used to spank me around. I had a stockmaker friend fit a stock for me and now I can shoot it all day long.
As I pay more attention, if the gun doesn't fit, it hurts.
