considering buying Rem7400 in 30-06 using low recoil factory ammo. Concerned about adequate ejection.
Anyone have any experience with the combination?

I have a Model 742, (the predecessor of the 7400) that I've been reading some about due to a ejection port dust cover that broke while I was shooting it recently. Trying to figure out what I had to do to break it down and replace the part. Sounds like keeping these guns running can be a challenge.

If you have a chance google up a website called LeRoys Ramblings. Articles by a retired gunsmith from around where I grew up on all kinds of things but he does have a great article discussing that whole family of remingtons 740,742,7400. I believe he says at one point not to use lower powered ammo just because of function issues.

1st year 740 here.

150g Hornady RN(round nose) designed for 30-30's velocity. Loaded over H4895 to about 2600fps. Doesn't beat on the gun, functions like greased ball bearings. Crushes deer on well placed shots. Think of it as a +P 30-30.

If a 740-2-00 won't handle that load, get rid of it. Mine is, minute of Coke can @100 with a Weaver 3X. Good luck with your project.

Most loading manuals offer starting loads. These likely will completely cycle a semi-auto action.
There has been considerable attention paid to this by the cast bullet crowd.
36.5 gr of H4895 completely cycles my M1Garands with 160-200gr cast bullets. Velocities range from 2300fps down to 2,000fps.
Similar burning rate powders will give similar results. I recommend sticking with faster to mid range rifle powders for these applications.
