I just paid $70 for SP primers mostly considered substandard garbage. Two reasons: they aren’t getting cheaper any time soon and I have to find out for myself if they’re really bad or if they’re just harder to deal with.I never thought I would be looking at $50 per for any primers as a good deal, but right now................
Agreed, and me either. This market has persisted much longer than anticipated already. There are no signs (that I can see) of improvement.
That's how I got started in handloading, back in 1978. An older gentleman was getting out of it and sold me all of his equipment for a very reasonable price; I still have some of that gear and will be passing it down to my grandsons.I meet the gentleman after rabbit hunting . I asked him why he was selling them and if he quit shooting . He said that he was 71 and just didn’t shoot that much anymore . I asked him if he knew what primers were selling for now and he said yes , but wanted to give someone a deal and he only paid $30 dollars for them when he bought them . I might be buying a lot of reloading equipment from him , press , dies , tumbler , and bullets . I told him to make a list and text me what he had and prices . He offered to sell me some nice pistols also , CZ97 , Sig 210 , Sig 365 and Ruger Blackhawk . I really wasn’t interested in them . I thought about the CZ for $750 . It’s nice to meet a nice person in this world .
I’m only 60-something and started down the same path 8 years ago. Monday I pass along my last self-loading .223, Ruger Mini14, a Mossy 500 and a .40S&W KelTek. All to the same youngster for about half of what he could find elsewhere.I meet the gentleman after rabbit hunting . I asked him why he was selling them and if he quit shooting . He said that he was 71 and just didn’t shoot that much anymore . I asked him if he knew what primers were selling for now and he said yes , but wanted to give someone a deal and he only paid $30 dollars for them when he bought them . It’s funny how different people interpret what is written . No I am not happy that primers are $100 dollars now , but I am happy to find a person selling them for $50 dollars . Like I told him , his prices are so low that I’m not even going to haggle with him about prices .Sounds like your buddy is happy with the deal and that’s what counts. I will say, had your first post included the information about this being a private deal for personal inventory, the reactions you got would have been very different, including mine. It really came off like you were complaining about finding a good deal in a retail store.
Naw…….they are NO good either…Are Sellier Bellot SPP any good , he is selling them also ?
They were Cabelas-only for awhile. Inexpensive compared to others but I liked them more than any brand but CCI. They seated smoothly and were accurate and reliable as any.Are Sellier Bellot SPP any good , he is selling them also ?
Do him the favor of passing his information along to someone who might be a ready buyer of what he has left. Not a public announcement but by PM. I’m sure someone here would like to know the caliber of those die sets.Well I think that I am done spending money with my new found friend now . I am buying his Lee Classic Breech press for $80 dollars . It looks like new in the picture . I decided that I would buy 1400 Sellier & Ballot SSP primers from him for $70 dollars and a Cabela’s 400 tumbler with fresh media in it and another big jug of unopened media and polish for $60 dollars .
Funny how things go . I just had set aside $600 dollars in my gun safe Friday before I saw his add selling his primers Friday night . Now I have spent $650 dollars with him . I thought about buying his Lee 4 die sets , so I could leave them set for what I am buying from him . But at $40 dollars that would just be lazy and I think it is good practice setting up your dies .
Large pistol are what I have the least of in inventory. That's about the going rate, and as soon as they come back to Target Sports, I'll be nabbing another 5k. $100/1000 after tax, shipping, and hazmat seems to be the going rate online. I've seen some SPP local for around $80, but as those are what seems to be used the most in my shooting these days, I added 10k to my warehouse last yr. I'll do the same for LPP this time around.I just paid $94.00 for 1K Winchester LPP not counting tax, shipping and hazmat and was glad I grabbed them before they vanished. And they did. The same day.
These days, any score is a good score if you get what you want.
