LPP

I never thought I would be looking at $50 per for any primers as a good deal, but right now................
I just paid $70 for SP primers mostly considered substandard garbage. Two reasons: they aren’t getting cheaper any time soon and I have to find out for myself if they’re really bad or if they’re just harder to deal with.

This market has persisted much longer than anticipated already. There are no signs (that I can see) of improvement.

I meet the gentleman after rabbit hunting . I asked him why he was selling them and if he quit shooting . He said that he was 71 and just didn’t shoot that much anymore . I asked him if he knew what primers were selling for now and he said yes , but wanted to give someone a deal and he only paid $30 dollars for them when he bought them . I might be buying a lot of reloading equipment from him , press , dies , tumbler , and bullets . I told him to make a list and text me what he had and prices . He offered to sell me some nice pistols also , CZ97 , Sig 210 , Sig 365 and Ruger Blackhawk . I really wasn’t interested in them . I thought about the CZ for $750 . It’s nice to meet a nice person in this world .

I have a thread running now about a good powder for self defense loads in a 45acp with a few criteria’s I would like it to meet . The guy that I bought the primers from just texted me that he has 3 1/2 pounds of Bullseye for $50 dollars . That wasn’t my first choice mainly because of how little it fills the case , but you can’t argue against it for accuracy in a 45acp . I have 2000 RMR bullets waiting for me at the post office now . He just offered me 750 extreme 9mm 124gr RN for $50 dollars , 900 extreme 45acp 200gr FP for $70 dollars and 164 extreme 38 148gr wad cutters for $10 dollars . It looks like my billfold is going to get some lighter .

I am up to $240 dollars now .
3 1/2 lbs Bullseye
1/3 lb BE-86 free
900 -Xtreme 45 200gr FP
637 - Acme hi Tek coated 45 230gr
750 - Xtreme 124gr RN
164 - Xtreme 148gr wad cutters
2 - Frankfort 45 acp reloading trays
He gave these trays to me for $5 dollars because I didn’t need them .
2 - Frankford 9mm reloading trays
1 - Frankford 38/357 reloading tray
1 - Frankford 44/45c reloading tray

He is figuring up prices for his Lee Classic single stage press , a tumbler and his Lee 4 die sets . I don’t really need the dies , but the prices that he has been giving me I might just set them up for the bullets that I shoot and won’t have to adjust them every time I switch bullets . He told me yesterday that he would sell the press for $75 dollars . I guess the new pistol that I was going to buy is going to have to wait a little while longer . I just set aside $600 dollars for one Friday before I saw the primers for sale .

That's how I got started in handloading, back in 1978. An older gentleman was getting out of it and sold me all of his equipment for a very reasonable price; I still have some of that gear and will be passing it down to my grandsons. 😊

I’m only 60-something and started down the same path 8 years ago. Monday I pass along my last self-loading .223, Ruger Mini14, a Mossy 500 and a .40S&W KelTek. All to the same youngster for about half of what he could find elsewhere.

It’s hard letting go but there’s no sense trying to hang on either. If he had wanted it I have a beautiful Official Police he could have but he really wants modern stuff.

Sounds like your buddy is happy with the deal and that’s what counts. I will say, had your first post included the information about this being a private deal for personal inventory, the reactions you got would have been very different, including mine. It really came off like you were complaining about finding a good deal in a retail store.

It’s funny how different people interpret what is written . No I am not happy that primers are $100 dollars now , but I am happy to find a person selling them for $50 dollars . Like I told him , his prices are so low that I’m not even going to haggle with him about prices .

Well I think that I am done spending money with my new found friend now . I am buying his Lee Classic Breech press for $80 dollars . It looks like new in the picture . I decided that I would buy 1400 Sellier & Ballot SSP primers from him for $70 dollars and a Cabela’s 400 tumbler with fresh media in it and another big jug of unopened media and polish for $60 dollars .

Funny how things go . I just had set aside $600 dollars in my gun safe Friday before I saw his add selling his primers Friday night . Now I have spent $650 dollars with him . I thought about buying his Lee 4 die sets , so I could leave them set for what I am buying from him . But at $40 dollars that would just be lazy and I think it is good practice setting up your dies .

Do him the favor of passing his information along to someone who might be a ready buyer of what he has left. Not a public announcement but by PM. I’m sure someone here would like to know the caliber of those die sets.

He probably wants too much money to ship them to be worth buying them at $40 dollars a set when you can buy them new for $60 with free shipping offers running . The dies were the only thing that imo he was selling a little too much for , but they all come with the quick change bushing . He has 9mm , 38/357 , 44 , 45 acp and 45c dies for sale . A Lee universal deprimping die with quick change bushing $15 dollars , 2 Lee Perfect Powder Measurers mounted on wood blocks ) $15 dollars each , Lee Challenger press mounted on a wood block $50 dollars and a Frankford Arsenal little digital scale $20 dollars left that I didn’t buy .

I just paid $94.00 for 1K Winchester LPP not counting tax, shipping and hazmat and was glad I grabbed them before they vanished. And they did. The same day.
These days, any score is a good score if you get what you want.
Large pistol are what I have the least of in inventory. That's about the going rate, and as soon as they come back to Target Sports, I'll be nabbing another 5k. $100/1000 after tax, shipping, and hazmat seems to be the going rate online. I've seen some SPP local for around $80, but as those are what seems to be used the most in my shooting these days, I added 10k to my warehouse last yr. I'll do the same for LPP this time around.
My general rule of thumb is get em if/when you can. The prices are pretty much here to stay, which is a total drag, so hoping they fall back to whatever might be reasonable between today's prices and what they were 5 years ago in my opinion is very wishful thinking .
As far as the deal the OP got, 4k for $200.....you can bet I'd probably tear the back pocket out me Wranglers getting that wallet out fast enough

@Lennyjoe Actually $430 would be about ball park with tax for 4k today. Hopefully debit for him tho, wouldn't wanna finance em at 18.9%, let alone the 3% fee
