I was just watching the first few minutes of the 2005 version of Kojak (on the USA Network).

Kojak carries a stainless steel snubnose.

It's nice to see a cop carry a revolver again!

Can anyone ID Kojak's gun?

:what:  :what:

yeah nice guns...

Kojak's stainless 38, evil angry white guy cop with a Beretta, other cop with a Glock... and a nice showdown scene...

Then they have to ruin it all by making the evil angry white guy cop the killer.

It's like these pencil-neck Hollyweeny scriptwriter numbnuts have some kind of monomania (or more likely ultra-leftyness combined with lack of imagination).

According to Hollywood (and especially all the Law and Orders) if we shut down the police force we could cut crime by 90%.

Morons. And I was really liking Ving Rhames as Kojak.

When Kojac retrieved his ammo from the table at the start, it was my favorite .38 PD load - those LHPSWC's - assumed to be the 158gr +P's. Later in the show, he has a SS 'evil-bottom-feeder'. I just got a glimpse of that SS snubnose - and thought it was a back-up piece - maybe a 637. I'll catch it next time.

The show seemed to drag... looked like an hour show s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d to two hours - but, it could be interesting. I'll watch the first hour episode. Thank goodness it isn't as intense as 'The Shield' or 'Rescue Me', which I won't watch much, or as silly as 'Monk', which I do watch. Oddly, my favorite recent cable-channel production was the short-lived 'The Peacekeeper', an early 1900's era western with Tom Berenger as the sheriff and the little blond EMT from 'Third Watch', who perished in the same episode as Berenger on 'Third Watch', playing an undertaker/ME. She has re-appeared on the latest 'Law & Order' variant as an ADA... I missed that show watching 'Kojac'!

Okay, I wasn't watching it that closely... I was cleaning revolvers!

making the evil angry white guy cop the killer

Actually, that makes sense. Evil angry white guy cops have caused me far more headaches than all the criminals of Spenard and the Butte put together

Anyone have a positive ID on the revolver? I was busy birthing pups at the time.

I too thought it was a Ruger SP101.

I kept switching between Kojak and Law and Order because LAO made reference to Det. Lenny Briscoe's death.

Kojak should be a revolver man.

Would a Ruger SP101 be allowed to be carried as a duty gun in the "real" NYPD?

Also, does the NYPD allow the use of "hollowpoint" rounds as shown on Kojak?

(I think I remember reading something in the past that, at least at one time in recent history, NYPD officers could not carry "hollowpoints" in their sidearms.)

 :scrutiny:

I tried to find a photo with the "new" Kojak and his gun, but this is the best I could do:

:neener: :what: :neener:

Ruger SPNYs (SP101s in NYPD form) were off-duty/back up guns in the early 90s. They could be carried as primary guns in plainclothes. Great gun. Also 158 Gr Nyclad HPs were issued, but Gold Dot .38s are now used.

I didn't get to se the entire pilot but from the opening scene where he's "questioning" the suspect, I though then that the barrel and hammer looked just like a Taurus. I'll try and watch a repeat and get a closer look.

I think it's a 3" Model 65 Smith. I could be wrong but I carefully wound the thread on the trailer. But I wouldnt be surprised to see it actually be a Ruger.

I also never thought of Kojak as an aged Superfly.

i thought the show was pretty entertaining. im a vhing rhemes (is that how you spell it?) fan.

i was just happy they had a 45 when the crook called it a 45

not some imaginary script writer gun (see 12mm FA 72round mag brady killer)

Congratulations! You didn't even tell us you were pregnant.

The first one through hurt the most :D

BTW, the easiest way to tell Rugers, Smiths and Colts apart in quick glimpses on screen is to look at the cylinder release device. Smiths PUSH, Colts PULL and Rugers PRESS. So if it has a little button you press, it's a Ruger.
