So I visited a local store a day or two ago and happened into a tough choice: the store had 2 used Glocks of particular note, one was a used 3rd Gen 35 (40 s&w) for $495 and the other, a used 3rd Gen 17L (9mm) for $595.

Usage: I currently shoot a pistol league at a local range. I used to shoot a Glock 19 and alternate with my SW 686. I sold the 19 to a friend to finance some reloading equipment, with the intent of getting a new semi for leagues later. I am torn between those 2 and cant decide.

Glock 35:
Cheaper
I have a Glock 20 (10mm) so reloading is almost the same parts/dies
If i want to shoot sanctioned IDPA/USPSA etc.., would be production class legal and major PF.
Upgraded to fiber optic front sight.
Cons: Slide wear, slide stop wear (replaceable)

Glock 17L
Legal for the leagues I currently shoot in.
Only Glock that is relatively "rare".
Ultimate target 9mm
I already have 9mm Glock accessories
Upgraded fiber optic front
Con:more expensive
Con:not usable in a lot of sanctioned events

Im leaning towards the 35 as it makes the most sense, and is the more future proof, however, the rarity of the 17L(this is only the 2nd ive ever seen) and the fact i can still use it for the league i do shoot, plus i prefer 9mm (not that 40 is bad) has me second guessing.

If the primary duty of the gun is to allow you to compete in the maximum number of events including those in the future, then the choice is clear -choose the 35.

Otherwise, you should go with the 17L for the present leagues that you are involved for the greater controlability of the 9mm and the longer sight radius which will enhance accuracy.

Of course, in keeping with tradition here at THR: You could just get both and eliminate the need to make a choice between the two.

G17L. It will give you the better stability and sight radius for the competitions you currently prefer to compete in. And it gives you an an excuse to buy a G34/35 down the road if/when you want to expand your horizons. The G17L is pretty easy to flip for full retail or even more, in good condition, if you can do face-face sales in your area.

I own a 17L and a 34 (9mm version of the 35). I'd buy the 17L now - 34/35 models are widely available, 17L's are scarce.

A friend bought a 34 and a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel. Runs both calibers with a quick barrel change.

I'd get the 17L because it's cool. Everyone and his dog has a 34/35 and I'm not sure there's any real advantage over the 17/22.

The 34 is 9mm. The 35 is 40S&W.

I have two G23s - the .40S&W version of the G19 - and have LW conversions to shoot 9mm and .357Sig in them. They work great.

When I bought my G34, the LGS had a G35 in stock and tried to convince me to buy it and get a 9mm conversion barrel. Then they started hosting GSSF Indoor events, and the barrel change would have moved me out of the Stock class....
