Lucky Charms 10/22 for the Lady

I figured out the .22 I'll get my girlfriend.

She's been bugging me about getting something she can shoot, and I have been thinking what would be best for her. Something magazine fed would be good, easy for her to operate. Then a cheap red-dot would be good, since she doesn't like scopes.

So I figure a 10/22 would work great! Just around 200 dollars for what I want, which wont hurt me too bad (Who needs a molecular and cell biology textbook, anyway?).

However!

I wanted to make it special, and I know her favorite color is green and her favorite cereal is Lucky Charms. Really, she goes crazy for that stuff.

So I'll be sanding the stock down and refinishing it a light green color, but I'll tape up a few sections where I will paint on the lucky charms.

For those who do not know what the lucky charms are, here is a picture. It's large, so I'm linking it.

The gift that keeps on giving.

I like it - I gave my wife (then steady girlfriend of 6 months) a 10/22 for her first Valentines Day present. She looked at me kind of odd for a second then got very excited. She still has it 24 years later.
She won't let me touch it tho. Modify it I mean. She says, "leave it alone, I like the Carbine style and it shoots just fine". How can you NOT modify a gun, especially a 10/22?

Hey why not, if it get's her to shoot...can't be any worse than a pink one I saw at the range one day!
Course you may want to go to your range on a day when nobody's there to sight it in before you give it to her!

She's seen multiple .22s such as Crickets and 10/22s that she'd absolutely love to have. I'm building this one because it'll mean something.

Plus she just exhausted my supply of .38 special and has begun on my 9mm.

I hate to see well-meaning but non-thinking guys get a large bore, big-recoil muzzle-blaster to start out their wives and girlfriends...best way to turn them off shooting.

.22 LRs are the ticket...very accurate, easy to use...and they can gets lots of shooting in for very little money!

good luck with the conversion, and just FYI: you can usually get a 1-2 year out of date cell & molec textbook for much, much less than college bookstore prices on amazon.com (even better if you can snag an instructors edition).

Trust me, random interweb guy, I don't buy from the bookstore unless I have to. Sadly, sometimes books come bundled for a class and have certain online access codes that I can only get from the campus bookstore.

And I havn't even bought my molec&cell book yet. Wont need to for this class.

And I'll finish sanding it today!

Took me an hour or so, but I got the stock looking semi-sanded.

Used 100 grit sandpaper.

Alright, I need help fellow high-roaders.

I sanded the rifle stock down completely today with fine grit sand paper. It's super-smooth and looks fantastic. I went to Lowes and picked up some paint and primer. The paint was mixed with an epoxy gloss finish.

To get the charms on the rifle is the hard part. Painting over the paint, then trying to polyeurothane them in wouldn't look right. At the same time, I think the best course of action is to paint the charms on the primed stock, cover them with something, paint with the green paint, and then peel protected areas and try to protect them with a spray on polyeurothane.

None of these options fill me with complete joy.

Anybody got any ideas?

you should make stencils of the lucky charms and put them on after you paint the stock let it dry add the stencils would probably have to be about 2 layers because different colors let it chil,l dry and clear it or whatever your going to do with it.

That's my delima, Chris. I'd do that, except that the clear coat is mixed in with the paint.

other than a local graphics artist? talk it up with the guys at your area graphics/poster design shop. i'd get it printed on an adhesive-backed poster shaped to the stock. then go over that with clear epoxy or something else. but dont trust what i say, im just brainstorming.
