I have one of the Lyman 12 gauge slug molds that cast the 525 gr. sabot type slug that is supposed to be loaded in a standard wad. I do not have any load data for it and really do not want to spend a lot of money for the Lyman manual when I may not even like the results that I get. Do any of you have any data you can share with these slugs. Anything with Longshot powder would be nice too.

Also, what accuracy results have any of you gotten out of rifled slug barrels. I know that this is probably a small subset of shotgun reloading, but any information will be helpful.

I've used the Lyman sabot slugs with Fed GM hulls, WAA12F114 wads and Winchester Super Field powder. I'm omitting power charge info for now. I've loaded them to both 2.75 inch "max" loadings and reduced loadings similar to Federal "Tactical" loadings.

I have experienced 50yd smoothbore accuracy similar to comparable Foster slug factory loadings by Winchester and Federal. I'm using the Lee Loadall II to load them. A more elaborate small shot press is a waste for this application since you can't use most of their features when loadings slugs.

The WAA12F114 wads have been discontinued by Winchester, the aftermarket replacements I purchased (Downrange brand) are just enough different dimensionally that they don't fit the slugs well, so I didn't try them. I have tried the Fed 12S4 wad, it works ok for the application. I would still like to try the Winchester WAA12 wad for the application, since that is still in production.
