I was surprised when a leafed thru my newi Lyman 49 manual and found very little load data for the 223. Nothing for bullets heavier than 55gr. Is there an explanation for this. I had my Varget and 75gr Hornady BTHP all readt to go, and then poof, nothing there. Anybody have a 1/8twist rifle load for Varget and 75gr.

223 REM load from Hodgdon

This is from the www.hodgdon.com site. JLK bullets used but Hornady should be a good replacement with the same weight.

223 REM

75 GR. JLK VLD---------Hodgdon------Varget

Min---22.5 gr------2693fps------40,600 CUP

Max---25.0gr------2907fps------48,400 CUP

COAL---2.250"

Case: Winchester----Barrel Length: 24"
Twist: 1:12"-------Trim Length: 1.750"
Primer: WINCHESTER SR

There is no way that they used a 1in12 twist with this load, IMO.

You must have "leafed thru" from the back to the front.
And found the 1/14 twist T/C Contender chapter on pages 409 -410!

Look on page 137 - 140 for the rifle data, in every bullet weight from 36 grain to 80 grain loads.

I'm an idiot. I thought that was very curious. Thanks RC

You are not an idiot, if you were, we all are! That's why this site is here so that we can ask questions and get advice. Sounds like you have a Colt AR with a 1/7 barrel twist the same as I do. :)
