i have a single cavity round nose bullet i got with another bullet mould at a gunshow years ago... the #on the mould is 358212 and i don't know what weight bullet it casts.... the other mould in the box is a 358477 150gr. swc mould and i've cast a bunch of them.... i looked at lyman's site here on the computer but they don't list that no..... does anyone have any idea what weight of bullet this mould might cast? a friend of mine wants me to cast some 9mm bullets for him but the bullet in this mould looks too heavy for that........ i have a lee scale and they go up to 110 grs. so i can't weigh the bullet i have here from this round nose mould..... anyone know if a guy can size a bullet from a .358 cal mould to .356 to load in 9mm?

THANKS.............. JJB

Another point; my 358477 is an old Ideal brand, before they started labeling Lyman, and it drops a true 158 gr., sized and lubed using a #2 alloy approximation. Find a scale with enough range to weigh your product from both molds, just to be safe.

Shot an awful lot of the 212 bullets in S&W autos and also in an MP40 SMG..............great bullet and very accurate..............sized mine to .355, lubed with alox.

thanks for the replies guys.... i guess i have my 9mm bullet mould! now to look into the proper powder charge weight for 146 gr. bullet load.....

If you want to weigh the bullet with the scale you have just cut the bullet in half with a pair of wire cutters and weigh the pieces. You may loose a few grains in the smear on the jaws, but you should be pretty close. Don't saw it in half as you'll loose too much weight in the kerf.

A 146gr mold can probably throw anywhere from 135 to 150gr depending on the alloy.

Tasco:

Most of my stuff has been loaded with Unique..........in and around five grains plus or minus, but you will tend to compress a charge of that volume with the 212.........I have actually pushed six grains when I had that MP40, but really found no advantage.....try Lyman's cast recommendations, you ought to be able to pull 'em up online or just go to the castboolits site.

By the way, the pistols I used that load in are a M/39 I bought new around '70 and the first 469 that appeared in my area..........both have held up well with a diet of nearly exclusive handloads with the 212 and a Lachmiller 120 truncated cone, tho the Lyman is the more accurate of the two.

i will be useing bullseye or red dot to load them with...... i have thought about how deep in the case these bullets will go when seated.... i really have no desire to compress any powder charge................ lymans site was the first place i went to for information..............
