Lyman M die and other options

That guy's redding certainly wasn't up to snuff.
You'll see that a lot when someone starts off with an agenda...that his Dillon is just as good.

I had a hard time listening to him pass 3 mins, of the 18 min video, due to his grating voice...but I persevered until he made it obvious that he didn't understand, or misunderstood, that both the Lyman and the Redding only have 2 steps of expansion rather than 3 steps. Because of his inability to understand that not needing to flare the case mouth is the whole point of the M-die profile, his creditability is brought into serious question.

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it all.
Charlie, I futzed with the seat/crimp die last night, backed it off a bit and the shaving was much less on the commercial cast bullets and non-existent on my own cast. I'll play with it a little more and see how it goes. I have to spend a little time and make sure they plunk in my 1911 barrel.

I'll have to sit down and go through the options presented.

ArchAngel, I get what you say, my dislike of Lyman's service may not keep me from buying a good product. But, knowing that the Redding is just as good, then that may be an option.
I'm curious about the NOE/Lee setup, but since I like to have a set of dies ready to go, I'd probably end up buying a die body for each cartridge or caliber and be back at the Lyman/Redding price.

I saw that RCBS has a "cowboy" expanding die for the 30-30 Win, and I don't know if it would be worth it as compared to the others.

Again, thanks for the input and discussion.

I am using the Mr BulletFeeder/DAA powder die on my 550C for 45ACP. It does the job! No shaved lead and a very mild expansion bell. I like the MBF/DAA/PTX as much as my Lymnan M dies.

I have one of the NOE expanders in my 300 Blackout die set I run on my progressive. They are a first rate bit of gear and I highly recommend them.

I have a metal lathe and have turned a few of my own, but for the minimal cost I am perfectly happy to buy any new ones from Al because I know they will be perfect.
