UPDATED: 7:57 am EDT August 30, 2006

LYMAN, S.C. -- A Lyman homeowner shot and killed two people he said were breaking into his house early Wednesday morning, investigators said.

The shooting happened on Lawrence street at about 2:45 a.m.

According to Spartanburg County Dispatchers, a man called to report that three people were trying to break into his home and that he had shot them.

At least one of the intruders was dead, the man said.

When investigators arrived at the home, the man said that he had heard intruders and fired his shotgun when they opened his bedroom door.

The coroner was called to the home at about 3 a.m. One of the people who was shot was found dead and the other was taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital, where he died.

Mike Shaw with Spartanburg County Coroner's office said that Marshall LeShawn Anderson, 28, and Travis Earl Anderson, 22, were killed.

A third intruder was not shot and was arrested, investigators said.

i love these sorts of stories. i wish they would put them on the evening news in my area. i'm quite sure that in and around philly there are frequent incidents of home invasions etc. being thwarted by armed and responsible civilians. criminals watch the news too. it would be good to make a big deal about what can happen when you decide on a life of crime.

Red, it's like that Jeff Foxworthy joke with the punchline "that is a house where a gun lives."

As far as ownership rates, it's about the same if not higher where I am, but I cannot help but wonder what exactly are these guys thinking?

The ones I have had have always been high when attempting hot burglaries. I understand hot burglaries in D.C., Chicago, New York, etc., but trying there.:scrutiny:

On the news this morning the reporter said, that when the door opended, the homeowner shot and hit the first guy.

Then the door opened again and he shot the SECOND guy.

I'm waiting to see what the final story is.

Darwin, where are you?

The second guy should be given the Darwin award for sure. Let's see...buddy opens bedroom door, gets shot dead with a shotgun. So second idiot steps over the mess that was his friend to open the door AGAIN???? :what:

Some genes just need to be taken out of the pool, and those were among them.

I like to hear stories like that, but what happens to the home owner? I've heard stories of self defense and the family of the intruder sued the homeowner for wrongful death.

depends on your state, in Colorado, you have near total immunity (civially and criminally) to waste someone breaking into your house. We call it the make my day law.

Several years ago SC's attorney general instructed his minions not to prosecute home invasions. He muttered something about open season on home invaders.

Second point, Lyman is the same town where several years ago some guy broke into the a widow's house. She greeted him with a pistol shot to the boiler room. When asked why the pistol she replied her shotgun would have messed up her new counters. :D

well i guess #3 didnt want to see what would happen if he opened the door, it takes a real dumb s.o.b to break in someones house like that, and im sure there will be some one that will say the home owner should not have shot them! *csa*
