Many units are know using the "squad designated marksman" who is armed with a "wannabe" sniper rifle for more precise shots and more punch. Many are using M-14s with a scope while my unit used modified M-16s. We sent a few rifles to the Army Marksmanship Unit, who then put on a new barrel and a nice trigger.
I was a SDM and had one of these M-16s and was loaded down with the Black Hills 77 grn OTM (M262?). I really like this round and think it might do better than the 62 grn M855.
As far as the leathality of the M855, it does its job. I have seen A LOT of people shot with this round and if you get a good COM or head shot, they go down hard. My unit uses mostly M-16s, but the few people I have seen shot by the M-4 have all died, but it was a longer death. They were out of the fight, but they didnt die right away.
