Anyone see the show on the history channel about the m-16 tonight. I only caught some of it, I want to watch the whole thing. Also they had a show a few days ago about the old western sharp shooters I only seen a little bit of that would like to see that show to. So if you know when these come on again can you post here with the time thanks.

I missed it, didn't even see that it was on till 5 minutes before it ended. I certainly hope to see it in a rerun though, they have a tendency to do that.

I just set my dvr and the description reads: "The unique history and technology behing the M-16 knife"...???

Does anyone else think the mag looked strange? Was it a 40 rounder or did they just not insert it all the way?

Uh, it just started again, and it's some of the most trite BS I've ever seen. It begins immediately with the North Hollywood shootout.

The LAPD officer involved in the shootout informs us that the 7.62x39mm round was "designed specifically to penetrate tanks"... :banghead:

They also never addressed any of the issues that many have with the knockdown power of the 5.56x45mm NATO. They made it seems as if it were super lethal, "because the gel told us so."

I might be wrong but I don't think ballistics gel can answer all of life mysteries.

One of the things I did like seeing was how they showed a little of the manufacturing process for the receivers. I had never seen that before.

One thing I didn't was the slant that H&K on their 416 "because it has a piston." Apparently they're not the first ones to replace the direct impingement on the AR-15 platform.

I didn't see the first five minutes of the show where the guy said 7.62x39 was a "super" cartridge.

It was a bit all over the map compared to 'Tales of the Gun'. Found it strange that Colt wasn't mentioned ONCE. There were a number of small mistakes (showing M-14's in combat footage while talking M-16 LONG after stating how the 16 replaced the 14, etc.) Also in the opening credits Colt M1911 is shown over a blueprint drawing of a Smith auto etc. Upcoming shows may inclue 1911, Remington 870 and AK (based on title sequence).

Kudos though for mentioning CIVILIAN SHOOTERS using the AR-15 in competition.

The guy who said the AK was designed to shoot through tanks was one of the LAPD SWAT officers in the Hollywood shootout. I'm sure he 'meant' AP ammo is designed to shoot through APC's. He also made $20k off Food Network and you can eat his mac n cheese at TGIFriday's.

My favorite part was learning that the 5.56 can make hay bales explode. :D

They also stated the direct impingement system is the reason the M16/AR15 has so little recoil, as opposed to the M14. I know less reciprocating mass will help in that respect, but they ignored the fact that it's such a smaller round.

I like the footage, during the ending credits, where the cameraman is looking up at a shooter and walks right in front of him while he's shooting. The cameraman may not have know better, but the shooter should have. The rest was just typical tv stuff. There's so much that could've been talked about that would've been relevant other than the LA shooting. Not really sure what that had to do with anything.

One thing I will say about the history channel is that they often portray guns in a positive, or at least neutral light, unlike most other media outlets. They may be a little light on the facts, but those type of shows are probably good for getting people interested in guns.
