Just snatched up a nice late model M-91 Tikkakoski. It was part of the last production run of the original Mosin-Nagants. This one was put together in 1940 with an old Czarist receiver a new Tikka heavy barrel and a stock that appears to have been through at least one world war. The stock has some fascinating marks on it, including several Austrian capture stamps and a carved "XA" towards the muzzle end. As with other WWI vintage M-91 stocks, it's of some dense European hardwood. Later Finnish made stocks were two-piece birch. The dark patina may be dirt, but is more likely the inevitable pine tar the Finns slathered on man, beast and rifle alike. Most of the ones I've seen have been missing the handguard, so it was nice to see intact.

The blue is mostly gone in exposed areas, so it certainly got around outside a lot. It may well have seen action, and might also have been used in training and reserve duty after the last of the wars. The M-91's were the mainstay rifles of the Finns from Independence until the M-39 finally came into mass production, though they don't get as much collector's attention as the should.
The trigger is very good and the bore is in fine shape. Should be a great shooter.

I've popped it open and it's a Remington receiver with no date. So it was made in the USA, sent to Imperial Russia, captured by Austria, sold to the Finns and finally rebarreled and sent back to war fighting the Soviets :D

There's some odd roughness on the barrel opposite the sights. I've seen this before, but never have figured out what it means.

It also has the "PR .2" mark found on some other late model M-91's. Nobody knows for sure what it means, though Brent S. suspects it's an inspector's mark.

Nice rifle! You got a great piece of military history there, enjoy it!

Looks like some minor pitting that someone tried to clean up at some point. Just a guess

I think it is pitting, but it's odd that the rest of the barrel is minty. Oh well, it shouldn't hurt the strength of it.

WHERE DO YOU FIND THIS STUFF?! haha all i manage to find is century parts guns, and 91/30's that look like they were made by especialy drunken monkeys

This one came from a fellow Mosinholic. We have a support group :D He's way ahead of me, though, since I sold him my M-28/30.

Very nice find. I started getting into the Mosin Nagants a bit late in life but have started to get a decent collection going thanks to a dealer friend here in Fl who is Mosin guru. I have to walk past hundreds of them just to get to his back counter! I always leave with either a lighter wallet or heavy regret lol.
