Seems I have come into possession of an example of each of these neat little snubbies. I confess I havent had the LCR to the range but I cant get over the trigger on this little revolver! My new M&P 340's trigger is heavy and gritty by comparison. I hate to say that as I am a huge S&W fan. As far as I was concerned the only double action revolver worth owning was a S&W. Now Im not so sure....

Now for some range tests...

Im hoping the M&P 340 trigger will smooth out. Im told that there are limited things you can do to a J frame to make it better.

I admit Im a newbie when it comes to DA only shooting. Im always the guy thumbing the hammer. Ive got enough going against me!

...I guess the only thing I dont like about the LCR trigger is that you can easily short stroke it and lock the cylinder. Need to be more conscious of the full stroke. Less and issue with my Smiths.

I have both and like them both a great deal. I have to admit, the LCR is VERY impressive and a great value. It is a smidge larger than the J-frame; enough so that it usually needs its own holsters, which can be a limitation.

But the trigger is very sweet; the Smith will smooth out, but I think Ruger has a big hit with the LCR, and after checking out the trigger actions on some Redhawks and GP's (l similar to cruching chicken bones; very disappointing), they really got things right with the LCR.

I agree, while strong as heck, the Ruger trigger has never awed me. I have always loved the Smith trigger, especially on the N frame guns.

FWIW--my EDC is an M&P340. When new, my gunsmith polished the action slightly--no spring changes, just some smoothing. I've now shot it about 2500 rounds--and the action is much smoother, but I can still stage the trigger easily.

I've only handled an LCR once, but I was impressed with the trigger--very linear, I thought, and, for a new gun, quite smooth. Nonetheless, I hardly find the quality of the two revolvers to be directly comparable.
