I have a M&P 45 that is new to me and i'm practicing breaking it down to become more familiar with it. Compared to my XDM the take down doesn't seem to go as smooth for me. The problem for me lays when reassembling it. Every single time I go to put the slide back on it feels like a rough transition in the take down lever area putting it back up. It almost feels as if it jams up or is rough and I have to toy with it. It's become very frustrating for me. Any potential problems mechanically or with me maybe that anyone can see? I read known agencies that carry the M&P on Wikipedia and it concerned me when I saw this "Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, M&P9 Phasing out as optional On-Duty and Off-Duty Weapons due to operational concerns"

I'm going to be going to the range soon but have read a lot about Failure to Feed problems in particular with the M&P 45. Is there a known issue with this such as ammo sensitivity or anything else? The XDM 9 I had ate everything I put in it including Wolf ammo.

Are there any performance kits out there or recommendations that would make my M&P 45 feed better?

Without having shot it yet and to add some insight instead of just questions to other gunners out there the guide rod doesn't sit as easily and snug to the barrel as the XDM did. Taking it apart yesterday I must have offset the guide rod a little bit or something because when I pulled my slide back on reassembly I got jammed back.

To end on a positive note I do like how the M&P fits my hand better than the XDM, the slide rides lower compared to the bulkier XDM and the backstraps ARE SO MUCH easier to change. The M&P feels more solid and natural to aim with while providing a less blocky feel in comparison to the XDM.

I have the standard M&P 45 that was purchased originally in 2010 if that matters.

I can't imagine what would be difficult about the M&P reassembly. While I don't own one, it seems fairly strait forward and simple for both field stripping and reassembly.

The M&P 45 does have somewhat of a reputation for problems with mag springs. I don't know which are the current springs, or how to tell if you have the current springs, but a search should give you the information you need. This is the only issue I've ever read of as a problem with the .45 version of the M&P.

The M&P 45 should feed just about everything. It has a very good reputation for reliability.

Your right its a very a simple design and take down is not hard. I'm just having trouble getting use to it I guess? I was so use to the XDM but they aren't much different take down wise.

I dont understand why my slide got locked in the racked position but im glad I was able to free it. I am definitely keeping an eye on, and making sure, the guide rod is flush and seated perfectly before assembly every time.

I dont understand what is hanging me up around the take down area and why it feels so hard to get the take down lever back up. I been shooting for years and this honestly is making me feel like a newbie (although I am new to the M&P). Can anyone think of what might be going on?

side note- Anyone know why LE was phasing the M&P out? Due to what operational concerns?

M&P 9's have had accuracy issues. The .40's and .45's have a generally good reputation, but both rounds are falling out of favor with LE. Chances are good an LE M&P in .40 S&W or .45ACP is being replaced by a 9mm gun, that are easier to shoot well, have higher capacity, is easier on the shooter and gun, and ammo costs are much less.

There is a new M&P 2.0 that is just hitting the store shelves these days, if you're interested.

Id love to know why there having accuracy issues, a lot of the top shooters in the country are using the M&P. The 2.0 I wouldn't take over my older style 45.

1) The older slide serrations are more aggressive in the front in comparison to the newer model.
2) The newer full size model 45 has at least a 1/4-1/2 inch barrel difference which theoretically would make it less accurate unless they are doing something new I don't know about with the barrels. ??

Still not hearing anything on why I might be getting caught up in the area I said during reassembly.

I had an M&P 45 mid-size and did not have a single issue with it. It fed any ammo I tried with it and reassembly was a breeze. The slide slid onto the frame smoothly without anything close to the rough spot you mentioned yours experiences.
