I have seen several options for improving the M&P trigger. Apex, or sending it off for a trigger job. Now, I know just enough about gunsmithing to be dangerous, an expert I am not.

On my Remington 1911, I converted it from a series 80 safety to a series 70. The M&P seems to have a similar setup. Would removing the firing pin safety plunger cause any problems? Beyond the obvious warranty violation?

Yes!!
Many!!

The striker fired S&W M&P is in no way, shape, or form, anything like the 1911 Series 80.

The 1911 IMO, never needed a FP safety in the first place.
The inertia firing pin is shorter then the hole in the slide, spring loaded to the rear, and it can't project out and touch the primer until the hammer smacks it.

All striker fired guns do need one.
The striker is spring loaded foreword, and would always be resting on a live primer without the FP block holding it back.

Don't mess with it.
