The thing to be aware of is that the facility to mount different red dot sights to the slide is both its strength and its weakness (yes, I'm using the possessive form correctly)
The factory adaption for mounting the sights is designed to retain the body/plate of the sight with screws, this makes it easy to mount different sights. However, be aware that this mounting method will not be as stable/secure as having the body of your chosen sight machined into the slide.
How well this design works for you will depend on your intended use
Not looking for a racegun .Had an STI sold it wasn't shooting it much. Just looking for a longslide 9mm and the option for optics is a plus. I now just take steel plates out for a ride and hone my skills. Thanks for replies.

I've been using the rear sight replacement mounting plates for years (J-Point, FastFire, RMR) without issues and the lower profile of the CORE setup more than makes up for any imagined weaknesses of the mounting system.
I liked my 9mm CORE and RMR setup so much that I had my M&P45 slide milled for an RMR too. The CORE route is significantly less expensive, too bad they don't offer it on the 45.
The trigger issues seem to be the big problem, from reading a recent article that mentioned even with the Apex trigger the gun has trigger problems, why Smith doesn't redesign the gun is beyond me. Standard, Pro, or Core, all need trigger work.
