Is there a way to make the thumb safety stiffer on the M&P pistols? They are too easy to flip off for my tastes, about all that you have to do is to look at it and it flips off.
There are some videos on youtube explaining how to complete disassembly an M&P and/or remove the thumb safety. You have to identify the part (probably a spring and a plunger) that holds the safety in its positions (ON-OFF). You can also take a look at the exploded diagram of S&W M&P pistols to identify the component; try this: http://www.scribd.com/doc/114062856/s-w-m-p-Armorer-s-Manual. Assuming it's a spring, all you have to do is find a stiffer one to replace the factory one. A good gunsmith can find or adapt the right spring to do the job, better jet a certified S&W M&P armourer. If I remember well, fastbolt is a member of this forum that is a S&W M&P certified armourer.
Maybe yours is worn or faulty or maybe someone messed with it. I can't remember what company but they made/make a replacement thumb safety for the M&P pistols that were/are a little slimmer so accidental change of position is less likely. If yours is worn/damaged/modified then the replacement should help and the slimmer design is an added plus.
I doubt you'll ever get it as positive as a 1911 - that external plunger and spring provides a level of positivity that is tough to get with other designs. Is that the level of "snick" that you're after?

The other way is to get a stronger spring (you'll see where it is in the thread).
Also, one correction/addition to the thread. One of the poster reduced the size of the lever by sanding/shaving it down and says he was surprised the lever is polymer. I know 1st hand it is polymer over a stainless steel frame. If you file enough, you will hit metal.
