M&P10 magazine suitability

When I learned that my LGS has a butt-load of M&P10s in stock I started to seriously entertain adding one to my rifle selection.
When I brought it up to my brother he said that he had a couple dozen M14 magazines still and that they would only need a very minor mod. to work on the newer platform.
Does anyone out there know for certain whether the S&W will accommodate these mags? I'm told that AR10s might not last-round hold open using these mags, but if they work otherwise, how could I go wrong?

What was the price on the M&P10's? I have been looking for one. I doubt the M14 magazine would work.

Magpul makes the best 20 rounder. Any SR-25 magazine will work.

The M&P10 is not an Armalite AR10 and your buddy's M14 mags are worthless (unusable) in it.

Magpul LR-20 Pmags are the way to go if you get the M&P10. Skip all of the steel mags, the DPMS are junk, and the C-Products and ASC work OK in a DPMS but don't fit right in a M&P10 or Colt 901. Based on personal testing.

Am using pmags and asc in mine both are fine. Anyone know if the barrel is melonite?

M&P10 has a melonite treated barrel.
