So my dads M&P9c was chronically locking back with only 1 round left in the mag. So he asked me to look at it. At first i thought it might have been the finger grip moving the mag enough to push up on the slide lock, but when I removed the slide, I noticed that the follower tab wasnt even touching the lock, rather the side was contacting it. I loaded some rounds to function test it when I noticed the rounds were loading funny...

Factory new gun, and the M&P9c was shipped with .40 cal mags...nice job S&W :banghead:

We'll be emailing them to see what they will do for us

With all the ramping up of production for popular handguns, it might have been a new hire mistake. Let us know how they handle it for you.
By the way, it may take a while, I was just on their site asking a question about an old revolver. Their site says that "due to increase calls..."
I did an email, and the auto reply said that their customer service would contact me within 5 business days. Good luck.
If you need new mags soon, and can find them on the shelf, maybe they'll reimburse you at retail price. Just a thought.

It is actually kind of impressive to me that it functioned more or less (minus the locking back with 1 round left in the magazine) with the entirely wrong mag.

I am sure if he contacts customer service he will get some new (9mm) mags and he probably won't even have to return the .40 cal mags....

I had that problem with one XD magazine when I first bought the gun. The salesperson sold me a 40 mag instead of a 9mm. Since then I had a 9mm mag do same thing until I bent the lips in a bit.

I have had very good interaction with S&W CS. They were very promt and made everything more than right for me. While they may be a bit backed up currently, when they do get to you I expect everything will be handled well.

Smith will fix the issue just call them. I ran across an old 40s&w mag from a Sigma I sold quite a few years ago and thought to myself "I wonder if this fits my m&p9c" sure enough it did. I tested it to see it it would actually work and I got the same results as the OP. Fed every round perfect until the last one. I only did it to see if it would work and would never use it again unless the M&P mags broke and I was in a bind but I found it interesting that it worked.
