After owning a few glocks and sigs, I decided to take the plunge with the M&P line today. I was in the market for a new CCW, and I took home a brand new in box M&P9c.

I got it home and field stripped it for its initial cleaning/lube. I did notice that it looks like there was some wear on the tabs on the frame? It's super smooth, however it just looks like wear. Is that normal for the M&P? There also looked like there was a line running down the edge of slide.

Last but not least, I did field strip it a few a few time the way the manual instructed me to. I did notice that sometimes, the take down lever would shoot right back up to the normal position when I was moving the slide back on the frame OR it would start moving up the point I had to hold the lever down while I was putting the slide back on?

Thanks for the help, and I plan on shooting the snot out of her this weekend!

I cant answer the first question but I can tell you the lever thing is normal.

I have one that's about 6 yrs old.

I wouldn't be concerned.... mine has similar marks and take down lever behavior from the beginning

It's hard to tell from the pic ... and for what its worth... your tabs look rounded while mine are flat. And your marks look a little more centered on the tabs than mine.

I have a 40 compact and all those things sound normal. Like the other poster, I think the line on the inside of the slide is from the test fire.

I've a 40C and a S&W 9mm replacement 9C barrel from Midway ($65 back in the day) and with some 9C mags its a great setup -- cheap 9mm for practice, .40 S&W for carry or when its the only ammo to be had.

I wouldn't worry about the wear marks. If it didn't have them it would have acquired them soon I'm sure.

The takedown lever is a constant source of problems and indeed has to be held down often to take the gun apart. All that said, they are wonderful guns.
