There's an Iver Johnson (sp?) .22 M1 type carbine at a local shop here for $250; looks to be in really good shape. Any experience with these?

IF MEMORY SERVES THAT WAS ONE OF THE ERMAWERKE GUNS FROM GERMANY.

IF IT IS AND IS HALF AS GOOD AS A PALS IT IS A PEACH OF A 22 AUTOLOADING CARBINE.
Does the rear sight slide up and down an angled ladder for elevation changes? My pals hit dead on the money at each click up from 25 to 50 to 75 to 100 meters.

If it's an Iver Johnson and it's .22, then it is probably in .22 Carbine, AKA 5.7mm MMJ. This is a wildcat based on the .30 Carbine case necked down to .22 caliber, generally shooting a 40 grain bullet, IIRC.

Iver Johnson did make a carbine copy in both .30 Carbine and 5.7 MMJ. These used the standard carbine short stroke piston. But they also marketed .22 LR and .22 Magnum carbine "lookalikes" made in Germany by Erma. These are blowback models.

The price on either, in top condition is around $150.

There was a gas operated model in .22 Magnum that had a very limited sale, they bring about double that figure in top condition.
