M1 Carbine: cracked gas block, what should I do?

I believe it fired out of battery. Flying pieces busted my lip and nose. I thought for several hours that I had 2 broken fingers. I also had tiny pieces of shrapnel all around my safety glasses. It was not an experience I would recommend. I was shooting S&B ammo as well.

Ya, this was the most valid argument against the late production, dual-spring guns. The receiver was simplified to eliminate the safety bridge which would prevent out-of-battery firing. GI carbines and Universals below serial number 99k shouldn't be susceptible to this- theoretically.
