I have a friend that gave me some hand loaded M1 carbine rounds the other day. Some were 100 gr short jacketed round nose, and the rest were loaded with 85 gr .30 Mauser jacketed hollow points. He has an Auto Ordnance M1 carbine just like mine, and said he uses them regularly in his. He said they were loaded to near max H110 data as per Hodgdon. The 100 gr loads shot fine; two fifteen round mags with zero problems. The ones loaded with the Mauser bullets caused a three failures to feed. I measured them, and they were 0.06 shorter than factory loads, but had a really wide nose.

Has anyone else here ever shot 7.62x25 or .30 Mauser (.308) bullets from an M1 carbine? Obviously it’s been done before as Hodgdon lists it in their rifle reloading section. Can anyone see any issues from using lighter bullets?
