and the rear sight is staked into place and the only part i can make out of the name is NAT(i thinkits a T)__________ORD. So maybe national ordnance but the serial doesnt match according to the list on the CMP site.

If it's a National Ordinance receiver it's NOT a GI receiver. It may have GI parts in it, but it's a commercial carbine. Have a look at m1carbinesinc.com for more info.

And I'd call before you pack it up. They may not work on NatOrd guns.

got the barrel placed on nice and tight with copper wire around the barrel. It snugged up real nice and i took it to the range and put 300 rounds through it no problem. I know everyone said dont bubba the rifle but that was the advice from my gunsmith in lue of a new barrel and so far the barrel is still nice and tight.

There are lots of things i will fix with scraps of metal or copper wire but a vessel meant to contain 38,500 psi 6 inches from my right eye is not one of them. Another vote to support your local gunsmith. (Plastic surgeons are more expensive)
