Took my M1 garand shooting today. Just replaced the clip latch spring , and op rod spring. Eight round clip shot great with no problems However my five round enbloc clip did not want to "catch" when inserted. Was able to hold the clip down and chamber the round and then it shot fine, shooting all five rounds and then the clip ejected. Can anyone give an explanation as to why my rifle doesn't like the Phibr as to why my rifle doesn't like the 5 round clip?

That's how the reduced round clips work. It's a battle rifle, full load or nothing! :D

The bolt release is only tripped when the mag follower gets pushed ALL the way down, with an 8 round clip. With only 5 rounds (or a 2 round clip for competition), the follower doesn't go down far enough to release the bolt and latch the clip in. The trick is to use your thumb to push the clip down while blading your hand alongside the receiver to push back the charging handle and release the bolt manually.

Wish I could help. The one or two reduced capacity clips I have tried worked fine for me. Been a while though.

How could you insert a cut down Garand clip 'the other way'?

Ain't possible!............you'd have the back/base sticking up and it would'nt feed.............at least the versions I've made and seen would not.
