On my Garand, the gas plug appears to be aftermarket, but it does not look like the two popular adjustable ones. I am not sure if it is an adjustable plug or just a regular, non-adjustable aftermarket one. If anyone could fill me in I would appreciate it. It almost looks like a giant screw, but I haven't tried taking it out or adjusting it since my rifle shoots fine. Would like to have an adjustable plug to use different kinds of loads, but don't want to buy one if this happens to be one.

I have both the McCann and Schuster adjustable gas plugs (aka gas cylinder lock screws) and that doesn't look like either one.

I understand some shooters had trouble with the original gas plugs, which were a poppet valve opened by the grenade launcher. They were supposed to close on the next shot, but sometimes worn parts made this fail.

I'm going to guess that is a solid gas plug, designed to be a duplicate of the GI part, except for the inability to accept a grenade launcher.

IMO, if you want an adjustable plug, you'll have to get either the McCann or Schuster. The one you have does not appear to be adjustable.
