Hi all,
...we know that Ordnance was looking at using the Garand Rifle. They had in mind three(3) calibers. The .30 cal., the .276 cal. and the .256 cal. What was the minimum breakdown of the .256 cal. i.e. bullet weight, muzzle velocity, etc.
Have fun
Thanks again

Don't know. Why didn't they just use the 250 Savage? That was and is an outstanding round for dealing with two-legged game. Would have made a dandy automatic rifle and machinegun round too.

Hi all,
Ordnance is talking about these other two cal.'s the .276 and the .256 in 1927 the files state that they can't drop the bullet weight below a certain set of gr.'s. Sorry guys but your not there yet.
Have fun on this one.
Thanks again
Clancy
ps that's why you need my books

Hi all,
The answer for the .256 caliber that Ordnance was looking for on the M1 was as follows:
"(2) Bullet, flat base, gilding metal jacket weight 140 grains."
"(3) Powder charge, sufficient of suitable military powder to give a muzzle velocity of 2600 f.s."
Hope you had fun on this one.
Thanks again
Clancy
