I have more than 20 guns of various stripes, but my Garand is in the top 2 for sure. It's a toss up between it and the AR-15, but the Garand makes a heckuva lot more noise when it hits the iron targets at 200 and 300 yds. BANG!!
Enjoy, you lucky fellow. Your Garand has the "provenance" that collectors always want.

Be honored. You have been entrusted a piece of history, a Marine's history. Care for it, shoot it.
And, if you're at the range and some real old timer starts admiring the Garand, talk to him. I do, and I've seen men in their 80's and 70's fire eight, hear the PING and hand me back the rifle with pretty moist eyes.
Just like my AR takes me back 40 years, these Garands can make an 80 yr old remember being 19 again.

It's a true honor. I tried expressing how honored and grateful I was to have this piece of history, etc...in typical old Marine fashion he was just like, "ahh, just shut up and take it!" Love the guy to death, I do. What a character. That is a really good point about the old memories from the rifle.
