I have a question, I have recently purchased an M1 Garand now my plan for this rifle was to use it as my hunting rifle. Now i wanted to mount a scope and being a left eye dominant shooter and seeing that you offered to scope mounts one that sits to the side of the breech which is meant for right hand shooter ans and the scout model. Now i purchased the scout model and have a hard time finding a scope that would work for this as you need a lot of eye relief since it is so far away. I was wondering if there is a way to get a scope mount for the lefties out there.

First, there are limitations because of the top feed feature of the design. Right handed scope mounts like those of the M-1C or M-1D are virtually impossible for a lefty to use left handed. You might be able to get a custom stock maker to make you a Garand stock but it would really be an oddball then.

You've got the right mount. Now, all you need is a long eye relief scope. There are plenty of them out there. You might even opt for a red dot sight.

A used Leupold 2x pistol scope off eBay would be a good combo with your scout mount.

The location of the op rod handle and the ejection pattern inherent in the design precludes you finding a left-hand scope mount.
Go with a scout scope mounted forward and go with rcmodel's suggestion or the 2-3/4x scout scope from Burris. I am happy with mine (mounted on a right-handed bolt gun however...)

Look for a 'scout' scope by that designation because there are some with higher magnification or variable power that could give you a better rifle scope than a pistol scope would be. They're called "Long Eye Relief" scopes (LER?).

Maybe one of the holographic sights would work?

I'm lefthanded too and have a few Garands. It's getting tough for these old eyes to shoot the rifle.

Oh well then, forget the ones by Weaver/Simmons or Nikon, 1-5 var because they won't work except on muzzleloaders or shotguns Probably wouldn't even want to consider the one by NcStar because it only costs $59. and so could never work, not for a minute.

Assuming everyone knows about google, (I guess it's a reach) a look under the scout designation is apparently more productive than a look under pistol designation. But if you insist that the box say 'scout' on it it does look like Leup and burris are the ones for you.

I am a lefty and put on an S & K mount. This replaces the garand rear sight, no drill, no tap. The scope is mounted high and to the left. You have to stretch your neck a bit, but it does work. You can use any normal eye relief scope you want. By the way, I haven't had to retighten the mount or adjust it since 1984.
