M1 Garnand from CMP

I'm in the market for an M1 Garand. The CMP has the field grade and rack grade available. For $425 + $22 shipping, you can get the field grade. Has anyone tried their luck with this condition M1? I just want a good shooting rifle and not that concerned with looks.

I got a rack grade because I wanted a new barrel and a new stock and re-park everything. It arrived and the barrel was like new, inside. I think my rifle was used as a drill practice rifle. The muzzle had to be recrowned and the butt stock plate was beat all to hell and back. Had to file out a lot of nicks and dings, add a new stock then re-park.

It was actually gray when it was fresh, but I applied a heavy coat of RIG, which is a yellow grease, and now it has the green tone everyone wants.
It has to be my favorite out of my 18 guns. Unfortunately, the 'smith that did it is now out of business, or I would have bought 3 or 4 more garands by now.
