Hi all,
...will need the following:
"That we need 2345 different gages; 1766 different Fixtures; 1388 special tools and cutters; and 79 punches and dies for the manufacture and assembly of the 74 different parts." That's just for one M1 Garand. I wonder what it took to build a tank..NO make that an aircraft carrier???

Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read and reply to this.

ps I just have to give you a quiz and here it is:
How did Ordnance get its funding for building the M1 Garand Rifle from 1934 to 1941?
pss Springfield Armory serial number list to be posted on fast.net site soon.

All that for one rifle? Not to mention machinists to use and interpret all those machines, measuring devices and specs. Might have to farm it out to the taiwanese today.
War bonds? no idea, my ignorance knows no bounds. :)

Eclancy's books are definitive. However, I don't have the time to read my copies (because of my own book project). If you're into Garands and its development, it's a must-have.
