If cash were not an issue (up to $3000) and I wished to purchase an M14 308 caliber style battle rifle what manufacturer and model would you recommend?

I have heard much about Springfield Armory, Fulton Armory, Armscorp versions.

I would appreciate any advise, recommendations

Probably LRB arms but I would buy a synthetic stock for it. They should last 75,000 rounds like a real USGI M14 would. I would stay away from the SA NM models. A standard M14 is accurate enough for it's intended use as a battle rifile.

M1A Plain Jane

Agree with above. Fulton Armory rack grade and LRB are fine and beautiful rifles. Base model Springfield M1A is great too. I bought two USGI M14's from an estate sale, one with an Armscorp receiver and one with a SA receiver. I sent them to Fulton Armory for technical inspection. I had to replace the stock on one and the barrel on the other. All together I paid about the same as I would have if I had just bought Fulton Armory's rack grade rifles. For battle rifles, it almost doesn't matter what brand you buy, almost any M14 will shoot better than all but the most proficient shooters. If you don't already own one, I would recommend Springfield Armory's ~$1500 plain jane M1A. You can always add more M14 spice later. You're not planning on stopping at one are you???

Custom built LRBarms by Ted Brown or Warbirds Custom Guns.

Rack grade LRB will cost you $2000. LRBarms.com

You could go this route and upgrade to match parts, or you could build up a LRB stripped receiver with USGI parts. Either way, you will be into about 2,500 - 3000. TRW has a certain mystique as the best USGI parts, but other makers will do just fine.

Check out m-14forum.com and read for awhile before you decide.

SA and Fulton rifles are good, and SA has a good waranttee and I know people have had to use it.

Good luck. Hope you feel better soon (it becomes a sickness).

Just so people know...

Fulton Armory's receivers are made by none other than Armscorp of Baltimore, MD. Same cast receiver, different heel markings, both entirely suitable for building a quality M14 semi-auto clone.
