The Fal has a bad trigger and crappy sights. It won't take a superior marksman to immediatly notice in a side by side comparison that the M14/M1a is superior in every respect except price.

Pardon me.
I was thinking of a durable functional battle rifle and not trophy aquisition, my bad.

The Fal is without a doubt a good battle rifle, not the equal of the M14, but I wouldn't feel undergunned with it. But the original poster is obviuosly placing a premium on accuracy. While a rack grade M14 and Fal are likely close accuracy wise the Fal has certain characteristics that limit it's potential. The trigger is not conducive to tuning and the sights are crude. The M14 has the added advantage of having been used for many years as both a match rifle and sniper platform so the tricks to getting the utmost in reliable accuracy are tried and tested.

No problem Bodhi.
You're absolutely right. If accuracy is the primary concern and money is not an object, then the M14 is the superior rifle.

I often forget that most of the people on this board are not penniless students.
Oh well, one of these days I'll be able to afford one.

The Supermatch is on the top and the Nationalmatch in on the bottom. Both are STOCK, absolutely straight from Springfield. Each target is 50 shots, off the bench at 100 yards.

Some folks have problems with Springfield. I don't.

When those targets were shot did your Supermatch have on the scope? And if so, have you ever scoped the Nationalmatch? Both groups are great but you can definitely see that Super shine. How do those groups look at 300 and 500 yds? As a man with both rifles do you find that the Super was well worth the extra $’s over the National?

I had a leupold 6.5x20 vari-x III on the NM for a while but it is just to much scope for the mount. I had the scope on the SM, so I put the NM back to a blade so I can work on my "irons".

The Super is worth every darn penny in my case. Mine is very very accurate, has the super heavy Fajen stock that they only put on it a few years. Mine is all TRW parts if I remember right and is just a blast to shoot.
