I was looking into having my RIA M1911's slide refinished, I'm thinking hard chrome, also I need vertical cocking serrations added to the front of the slide. Do you know what firms do this kind of custom work? Can serrations be added after the fact?

Here's a Picture of the gun:

And here's what I want the slide to look like (not counting the numbering in the middle)

Why do you need front serrations? Most folks hate them, I know I do, my Springfield Loaded has them and all they do is chew up the inside of my holsters.

Anyway, if you have to have them you'll want to get them cut before you have the slide refinished. Any competent 'smith with the proper equipment should be able to cut the serrations. I'd check out someone like Armoloy for the hard chroming. I have a S&W 25-2 that was Armoloyed over 25 years ago and it looks like new.

I like to use my thumb to hold the slide in place when engaging the slide release. I can't do this comfortably without front serrations.
Sorry man, I can't even picture that move in my head let alone do it with my gun. If I'm locking the slide open I use an overhand grip on the slide, gripping the rear serrations, and push the slide back while engaging the slide stop with the thumb of my shooting hand.

Regardless, have the machine work done first otherwise you'll refinish the slide twice - before and after.

No problem, I doubt I described right, and even then its a squirrelly move... Its just what I'm comfortable with.

Edit: Developed the 'technique' when I was learning to shoot as a kid and had small weak hands.
