Picked up a sporterized Eddystone and need to put a scope on it. Has had the rear sight milled off and has 2 screw holes in the front of the receiver and 1 in the rear. Looks like it may have had a Leupold (or something similiar) 1 piece mount at one time. Anyone have any ideas? Will be used as a shooter. Thanks!

Are there are any usable threads in those holes (can't tell from pic)? Are the holes 6-48 or 8-40 or hogged or wallowed out?

This one is also tapped on the side for a peep sight I believe. Front sight is a Lyman and pretty nice.

I had a 1917 Eddystone customized by a gunsmith. He milled down the rear sight, cut the barrel and drill 2 holes in the rear of the receiver and 2 holes in the rear of the barrel. I put a Leupold scope on it with see thru mounts.

I'd measure the distance between the holes and look for a one piece that matches the pattern. You might try this base but depending on how the rear of the receiver was ground and holes spaced it may or may not work.... It is for a 1917 and does have 2 holes in front of the receiver and one in the rear.

You might need to find a different base and/or drill holes in the base to match the receiver. Depending on how the receiver was ground you also may need to shim it...

You might also check for bases intended for Remington Model 30s, as that is what the de-horned m17s are imitating.

Good idea, but at least in the Weaver product line it looks like the weaver base for recommended for the model 30 Remington is a two screw # 11 front and back, so that won't work for the rear, or a side mount #1, which would necessitate more holes being drilled... Maybe in another brand of scope base though....???

My understanding on reciever sights for the remodeled U.S. M1917... it'll take a Lyman #57SME or Redfield #70R. I don't really know if you'd have to inlet the stock for those models, but you would with early variant Lyman #48's. (I've seen some Rem.30/M1917 that had the early Lyman #48 removed... they were inletted deep. That's why Lyman redesigned the base.)

On scope bases, right off, I'd think to look into a Redfield Jr or Leupold Standard. They're one piece, 3-screw bases... blued steel. IIRC, both companies used to offer one for these rifles.

Looks like at $17 it'd easy to find out. I was kinda hoping to keep it more vintage hunting rifle looking with a Redfield Jr base and a vintage scope but may have to roll with what's available. It also has holes for the Lyman 57SME peep sight so I'll be watching for a reasonably priced one of those as well. Thanks!

Weaver mounts for Arisakas and rem600s use a screw pattern like that. If you measure your screw holes I can tell you if it's an Ari base....I might actually still have a spare you can have if it fits.

A local friend had a free Lyman 47 series sight for a 1903 and it went on earlier today and fit perfectly. Did manage to score a Redfield JR scope base so will be working on the vintage scope and rings as time and money permit. Thanks a bunch for the awesome offer though!

No problem!
Sweet that you got it figured out!
Theres usually some decently priced vintage rings on ebay, and old school weavers and redfields tend to be pretty affordable. Good luck with the continuing project, and keep us posted :D

Also have to locate a correctly fitted recoil pad as this one is too big for the stock and looks goofy.

probably need to have it ground to fit, getting a pad that fits on one of those older stock with no modification is nearly impossible.

That's a much prettier rifle than the initial pic allows to be seen. Nice clean look with the Lyman 48... post-WW2 variant, if my info is accurate. Looks like it didn't take much inletting.

That recoil pad... I wonder if it's a grind-to-fit somebody didn't get around to having finished.

Your mostlikely right

Looks like an old pachmayr white line, I use those on guns that are older and or dont require much reduction in the sting from recoil.
