I have a close to new M1A standard set aside at a local gun shop. The price is about $1600. It comes with a wood stock, synthetic stock, a box of ammo and 10 mags of various kinds. Is it worth it or have I been had. I can still back out at this point. Input/advice please!

I think the more important issue is, Are you happy with the deal? Because if you happy and love the gun, then the price you spent on it means little to nothing.

The M1A/M14 is one of my favorite guns, and all i have is a polytech!

Of course I am happy...I want an M1A. I want to know from those who know if my money can be better spent. I know that I could get an M1A for less but does the extra stock, rounds, and magazines make it worth while?

If the mags are CMI then you have ~$200 in those alone. If the stocks are USGI then you could possibly have another $200 in those as well. Either way, money spent on an M1A is always money well spent :).

haven't seen any used ones, but at a shop here they have a new loaded with the stainless barrel for mid 1500's. Sorry if that doesn't help

Sgt.45: Sounds like a fair deal to me.

This board has no shortage of folks that will attempt to convince you that they'd do better in some imaginary scenario.

Buy it if it "cranks your tractor"...

I think the price would be high if it was just a standard without the extras. With the extras I think it's a good deal. Not a screaming deal or anything but it seems right in line with what I've seen.

I got my loaded with synthetic stock for about $1500 after shipping. The loaded is of course a step up from the standard but I also didn't get the extras you got.

I would say that unless you are more inclined to look for a loaded model, this pricing seems fine.

If its a factory-build, in factory-configuration (not somebody's home-gunsmithing debacle), the price is not out-of-line.

Figure serviceable mags, even if well-used, are worth $20 each.

Would have to know more about the "spare stock" to comment accurately on that.
We'll say $50 value.

So, you would be paying essentially $1350 for a gently-used factory rifle.
To the extent that GUNBROKER prices are representative, that figure is quite fair in the current market.

Bud's Gun Shop wants $1525 for a standard M1A

You can move to Canada and get a Chinese one for five-six hundred.:uhoh:

If that is the exact rifle you want then you have a good deal. Especially if you are getting some good mags. Plus an extra stock cant hurt.

Good deal, I paid $1300 for my standard M1A used but wanted it because it was a preban and had all usgi parts. You are getting alot of extra stuff for only 200 more.

with the extra stock and ammo it is about right. the magazines might be a good deal or junk, as some M1A magazines are not great. I'd go for it, or get a loaded standard or SOCOM from Bud's

Sounds like a good deal given the extra mags and stock and some ammo. I'd say go for it if this is the particular M1A model you are interested in.

i got one on m14tfl.com the other day. Pm if you want to know what i paid for it

Heh.. I paid $575 for mine... Scout Squad with the Camo stock.. Came with a carrying case and 5 magazines..

Then again, it was a friend discount... After that, I consider him one of my best friends ever.

If it were me, I'd see how much without the extra synthetic stock. It would never end up being used by me.
