Can you remove a pinned front sight base and reinstall it? I recently bought a barrel assy that had the delta ring cut off for a railed handguard, and I'd like to reinstall a delta ring.

Yes... as long as you can remove the compensator... you're from Texas, so you probly don't have "one of them funny AR's". There isn't a right or wrong side, the pin should push or tap out from either dirrection.

You'll have to remove the barrel nut from the upper anyway so why remove the FSB.? The delta ring assy. installs from the rear of the barrel nut.

So you can much more easily reinstall the delta ring, weld spring and snap ring by removing the barrel from the receiver. FSB and flash suppressor removal isn't required.

It's been a while since I put a non-free floated upper together, and for some reason I had it in my head that the delta ring spring went in front of the barrel extension flange. I've looked at the schematic and figured out how to put it all together.

Nevertheless, this still leaves the base question - can you drift out the pins on the FSB, remove the block, and then reinstall the block with the pins and have it all hold together?

Yes. Some manufacturers use tapered pins, so check for different-sized ends. Get a good support for the FSB and a strong drift and whack carefully. I coat the barrel with grease to prevent scratches when you R&R the FSB.

AR15.com has an informative how to build it section.

Yes you can. I do this when I 'shave' the FSB down to a lo-pro gas block.

LMT 10.5" barrel, factory FSB 'shaved' and then KG Gunkoted.

LMT 16" barrel, factory FSB 'shaved' and then moly Norrells flat black.
