M1A scope mounts

The ones we had the best luck with in the mil were made by McCann industries, which is unfortunately out of business. I have heard good things about Smith Enterprise, which was picked up by "big army" for variations of the M14 that were "modernized" for afg/iraq.

I liked the Bassett mount on my M1A. One connection point. Goes back to zero when removed and reinstalled. Well designed and quality manufacturing.

Note that any scope you mount will require some form of cheek riser or you’ll be doing the Jay Leno chin weld to get a proper sight picture. I went with the Bradley system (above)

I assume Bassett still in business. The owner died a few years ago and I heard the daughter had taken over. Check ‘em out

The classic military M14 scope mount was made by Brookfield Precision. They're long out of business. The Brookfield design is being made by Sadlak Industries, the only difference being that they use a standard Picatinny rail (with uniform slot spacing) rather than a Weaver rail (with irregular slot spacing). You can't go wrong with a Sadlak mount.

You don't want a single connection point. Not sturdy enough. The Brookfield/Sadlak design replaces the clip guide with a second mounting point. Plus, it has a set screw that bears against the receiver ring.

If you want this ability, it's better to leave the mount on the rifle and use quick-detach rings instead. You want a permanently-installed rail.

I disagree. The Basset locks into those vertical and horizontal relief cuts on the receiver and is rock solid with the single bolt holding it in place. Ask anyone who’s had one

I've been using the Bassett low mount on my M1A NM for over a decade. Perfect.
Reports on Sadlak are good.
Bradley cheek riser to eliminate turkey neck.

I use the Springfield mount. Its just works. I went with the Aluminum version, because I don't ever plan on removing it. They say you can, but it will only work for the particular rifle it was first installed on.

The heavier steel version is more for those who want to take it on and off.

You also must install a cheek weld. The mounts sits very high (no way around it, the M1a/m14 was never designed to use optics), but for me at least..its not a big deal

I use the Bassett and have never had any issues plus I can remove it and use my irons. Sadalak is a good mount for permanent mounting of your scope. The Bassett is a solid mount and holds zero very well.
