the scoped M14s, (M21s) seem to be working well in Afghanistan.

They (conventional forces) are "making do" with them. In SOF units, weapons like the SCAR 17 variants are stealing the show in this role. There is a current initiative for a carbine version of the SR25/M110 (an AR10 variant) to fill this role in the future.

Well agreed but when your eyes get older the irons aren't usable. I find myself in that boat. This was a very interesting thread for me as I'm considering a scope mount for my Springfield M1A NM. I'm also looking at the Miso sight for the M1A from Creedmoor.

I rode over to Dripping Springs about 50 miles from my house, got to meet Bill Bassetts daughter Bryn and her family. Marine Viet Nam vet uncle shared lots of stories about Texas history and he even attached the mount for me. Great people, wonderful visit. For now Weaver Grand Slam 4x12x50 for grins, ordering a Vortex soon, cant wait to get everything mounted for sighting in. not sure which or what kind cheek piece I will get.
