I have an M1A Scout Squad rifle that I would like to eventually use with more than just the iron sights. The Scout Squad model already has a piece of rail in front of the bolt to mount whatever. I want to use this feature rather than buying a seperate mount. I definitely want something rugged and with magnification. Price could go up to about $800 (but under $600 would be better.) What optics/scopes would you recommend for this rifle?

I tried a 4x Leupold on my Scout Squad but was never really happy with the results because it sat too high to get a good cheek weld.
I may go back to it in the future but I really like the iron sights.

Scout Squad with a "Potatoe" I made.
Its a Standard block of plastic cut to fit the stock, I put two metal pillars in it and then drilled in to the stock. Covered with leather for comfort.
It and the scope can be pulled in two seconds to use my irons as back up.
Works just as well with forward mounted optics.
I'm running a Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 ballisplex.
I have run an EO Tech, but feel I do just as well at 0-100 without one.
