So I finally have enough money to purchase a M1A. I think Im set on the scout squad but was wondering if any of you guys have any advice on either of them? Thanks a lot and im looking forward to your replies!

Standard M1A (but not the loaded or match models) will accept an Ultimak mounting rail if you would like a scout scope on a 22" barrel.

The 4" of barrel will add 50-100fps velocity depending on the load. This won't matter much until you get out past 400-500 yards, at which point it will make a difference.

The shorter barrel is handier and balances a little better.

What do you want to do with it?

Well i plan just to use if for some hunting and maybe a truck gun! I would actually put the arms #18 mount on it and scope it that way probably but the reason i like the scout better is the shorter length and it feels more balanced to me! So thanks for you quick reply already!

Don't touch anything from A.R.M.S., their owners are not pro-gun and not especially pleasant businesspeople to deal with either. There are many other, better scope mounts available. I would look first at the Bassett mount:

Apart from that, an 18" barrel is handier and a 22" gives marginally more velocity. Sounds like will be your main focus for deciding. What state are you in and what distances do you hunt at?

BTW, to each his own, but I can't see carrying a $1400, 9lb, 44" long rifle as a truck gun... if I were going to, however, I would definitely go with the scout model.

M1 as a truck gun? Get an AR-15, and carry a few 20-round mags with you (the 30-round are kinda bulky to use in a truck gun). They're cheaper, lighter, and a lot shorter than a M1 (and cheaper to shoot).
